Jan Wooden Plate featured in the pandemic relief cookbook, Serving New York

These days, when most people are cooking nearly every meal at home, many of us may be left feeling a little starved for inspiration. Fortunately, there is a new digital cookbook that promises to pull you out of meal-planning fatigue with recipes from some of the best restaurants in New York. Aptly titled—Serving New York: For All The People Who Make NYC Dining Unforgettable—it is the passion project of Kristin Tice Studeman, a fabulous food writer and editor whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Vogue and W Magazine, to name a few.

Today, based out of Miami, our collection includes pieces for your daily life and home, as well as interior design services, custom designs, even concept development and licensing. And just like you, each of our handmade goods is unique in its own right.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marjan Sattarzadeh.

Marjan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been captivated by color and texture and how people were affected by and interacted with their surroundings. I studied Interior Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design and worked in New York City for the first five years of my career. I spent my 20’s traveling as much as I could. My inspiration comes from travel, nature and my background as an Iranian American.

Babes Who Hustle, Babe #192

Marjan is the owner and lead designer at Jan, a sustainability-driven, Miami-based studio and shop sourcing unique homeware pieces from India (where she travels to and from in order to find the perfect items.) In addition to a well-curated collection, Jan also provides services including interior design, custom design work, concept development and branding. While being a designer and curator often seems like an exciting (and TBH, aesthetically-pleasing) occupation, Marjan’s interview shines a light on the long hours, hard work and not-so-glamorous aspects that her role demands.
